The South Carolina Voter Registration Deadline to vote in the 2024 General Election in November HAS PASSED. You’re still encouraged to register, but will not be eligible to vote in the November 2024 election.

It is always a good idea to check (and double check) your voter registration status BEFORE the voter registration deadlines. Regardless if you have voted in the most recent election cycles or have not moved, we highly recommend checking and confirming you are registered and ready to vote in November. **The voter registration deadline to be eligible to vote in the November 2024 General Election has passed.**

For online, must have valid SC driver’s license or ID card & access to full Social Security Number.

If you don’t have an ID, use paper form & attach copy of approved document proving identification

At county board voter registration office, Dept. of Motor Vehicles or other approved locations

VOTER REGISTRATION INFORMATION:

In order to vote in South Carolina, you must be registered to vote at least 30 days prior to any election in order to vote in that election. (see S.C. Code of Laws 7-5-180)

In order to vote in the November General Election, voter registration deadlines were: 

  • Friday, October 4, 2024 at 5pm: In Person Voter Registration Deadline (unless county board holds weekend hours)

  • Sunday, October 6, 2024 at 11:59pm: Online, Fax, or Email Voter Registration Deadline 

  • Monday, October 7, 2024: By Mail Voter Registration Deadline (must be postmarked by this date)

  • **The Voter Registration deadline for South Carolina was extended to Monday, October 14th due to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

ELIGIBILITY:

To register to vote in SC, you must:

* Be a US citizen
* Be at least 18 years old on or before the next election
* Be a resident of South Carolina in the county & precinct in which you are registering 
* Not be under a court order declaring you mentally incompetent
* Not be confined to any public prison resulting from a conviction of a crime 
* Have never been convicted of a felony or offense against the election laws OR if previously convicted, have served the entire sentence, including probation or parole, or have received a pardon for the conviction
* There is no length of residency requirement in SC in order to register to vote. 

HOW TO REGISTER:

You can register one of three ways in South Carolina:

1. ONLINE
* Requires a DMV Driver’s License or DMV ID 
* If you’ve moved, you must first update your address with the DMV

2. BY MAIL
* Download a Voter Registration Application at scVOTES.gov or
by clicking here
* Sign & return the form to your county voter registration office 

3. IN PERSON
*
Visit your county voter registration office (find your county office

* Register while receiving services at these agencies: Armed Forces Recruiting Stations, Commission for the Blind, Department of Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse Services, Department of Disabilities & Special Needs, Department of Health & Environmental Control, Department of Health & Human Services, Department of Mental Health, Department of Motor Vehicles, Department of Social Services, Protection & Advocacy for People with Disabilities, Vocational Rehabilitation Department.
